đ¸ Faith Over Fear: How a God-Focused Heart Conquers Fear
When Fear Creeps In: How Faith-Filled Women Can Rise Above It
âFear tolerated is faith contaminated.â
That phrase hit me like a holy wake-up call. Itâs so easy to let fear linger in the back of our minds, quietly influencing our choices, our moods, even our relationships. And yetâwhen fear takes root, it begins to tangle itself around our faith, suffocating the very trust weâre called to walk in.
Have you ever found yourself paralyzed by fear? Maybe it was the fear of rejection, fear of failing, fear of the unknown, or fear of what others might think. Whether it whispers in our minds or screams loud in the silence, fear often finds a way to grip our heartsâespecially when weâre on the edge of something God has called us to do.
But hereâs the truth: all doubt is fear-based, and fear tolerated is faith contaminated.
đż Fear Is a Thief
Fear robs us of peace. It robs us of purpose. It keeps us stuck when God is calling us forward. In Luke 8:41â50, we see two stories woven together: a father desperate for healing for his daughter and a woman reaching for her miracle. What these stories have in common is thisâfear was present, but faith moved them forward.
Jesusâ words to the woman in verse 48 are stunning:
âDaughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.â
He didnât say âyour fear disqualified youâ or âyou shouldnât have been afraid.â He saw her fearâbut He also saw her faith. And it was her faith, not her fear, that defined the moment.
⨠Fear: The Heartâs Warning Signal
Letâs be real, sisterâfear shows up in all kinds of ways.
- That ache in your stomach when youâre uncertain about the future.
- The voice that says youâre not enough or what if it all falls apart?
- The hesitancy to obey God fully because what Heâs asking feels too big, too risky.
Luke 8:41â50 gives us a glimpse into two womenâs encounters with Jesusâone, a bleeding woman desperate for healing; the other, a grieving father begging for his daughterâs life. Both were afraid. Both had every reason to shrink back. But what did Jesus say?
âDo not be afraid; only believe…â (Luke 8:50, TPT)
Thatâs His call to us, too.
đŞ Fear Is Self-Focused. Faith Is God-Focused.
Fear turns our gaze inward:
- What if I fail?
- What if I get hurt?
- What if Iâm not enough?
But faith turns our eyes upward:
- Who is God in this situation?
- What has He promised?
- How has He been faithful before?
When we allow fear to take the lead, weâre essentially saying, âGod, I donât fully trust You with this.â And girl, thatâs not where weâre meant to live. The enemy thrives in fearâbut the Spirit breathes in faith.
đď¸ So, What Should Our Attitude Be When We Feel Fear?
- Recognize itâbut donât stay there.
Fear is a signal, not a stopping point. Acknowledge it, then ask, Where is this coming from? Is this fear rooted in truth or a lie? - Speak the truth louder.
Replace fearful thoughts with Scripture. Fear says, âYouâre alone.â Faith declares, âGod is with me. He will never leave me or forsake me.â (Hebrews 13:5) - Shift your gaze to Jesus.
Like Peter walking on water, the moment he looked away from Jesus and focused on the storm, he began to sink. But when he refocusedâJesus reached out and lifted him. (Matthew 14:30-31) - Remember who you areâand whose you are.
You are not a victim to fear. You are a daughter of the Most High God. His perfect love casts out all fear. (1 John 4:18)
Thatâs such a powerful truthâand beautifully put. You’re tapping into something foundational: fear was never part of Godâs original design for us. Hereâs a blog post draft based on what you just shared, perfect for speaking life into women who need to hear it:
đ¸ Fear Has No Place Here â A Word for the Daughters of God
Fear is foreign to the born-again human spirit. It was never meant to be part of who you are.
When God created Adam, He breathed His own Spirit into himâlove, power, peace, joy. There was no room for fear in that garden. None. Adam walked with God, fully connected, fully known, fully safe. But in the moment of disobedience, something tragic happened: Adam disconnected from God and connected to the voice of another.
And what were Adamâs first recorded words after that?
“I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid.” (Genesis 3:10)
Fear entered the world through treasonâa spiritual betrayal that opened the door to sin, shame, and separation.
But friend, hereâs the good news:
âSince the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might break the power of him who holds the power of deathâthat is, the devilâand free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.â
â Hebrews 2:14-15
Jesus came to redeem us from fear and everything that fear binds us toâbondage, doubt, anxiety, paralysis, shame, torment.
đ Fear is a liar, and love tells the truth.
The truth is:
đ You were made to live bold, free, and full of His Spirit.
đ You donât have to tolerate fearâbecause what you tolerate, you empower.
đ The love of God is stronger than anything the enemy can throw at you.
đş When fear shows upâŚ
Donât invite it in. Donât give it a place at your table. Instead, speak truth:
đ âGod has not given me a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.â (2 Tim. 1:7)
đ âPerfect love casts out fear.â (1 John 4:18)
đ âThe Lord is my light and my salvationâwhom shall I fear?â (Psalm 27:1)
Fear is not your inheritance. Peace is.
Bondage is not your birthright. Freedom is.
Shame is not your covering. Glory is.
đ Let This Be Your Prayer:
âLord, when fear comes, remind me to fix my eyes on You. Help me to walk in faith, not feelings. Replace my fear with peace, and draw my heart back to Your promises. I choose to trust You.â
đˇ Final Thoughts
Beloved sister, fear may knock on your door, but you donât have to let it move in. Every time fear rises up, itâs an opportunity to lean deeper into the arms of the One who is always in control. You were not created to live in fearâyou were created to walk in faith, bold and free.
Let fear be your reminderânot of your weakness, but of your desperate need for your Savior.
Youâve got this. And more importantlyâHeâs got you.
